About THE UNTANGLED SELF:
As a clinical psychologist, couples therapist and psychoanalyst with a background in cognitive science, I believe that our identity is highly fragmented and that our introspective work is to untangle the pieces to form a coherent narrative of who we are and thus, to give meaning to our lives.
If you’re curious to know who I am and how I view my work, here’s a recent interview with the brilliant journalist and author Alix O’Neill.
The relationship between our identity and mental health problems is significant and multifaceted, involving psychological, social, and neurobiological dimensions.
I've spent most of my life trying to figure out how to use the tools of psychology, psychoanalysis, and neuroscience to challenge widely held assumptions about personality, identity, motivation, free will, intelligence, empathy, and creativity.
The themes I explore for readers in this blog revolve around the question of how humans get trapped in bad equilibria while acting in good faith. In The Untangled Self, I share insights gleaned from my reading and my clinical practice, often inspired by the problems my patients bring to my attention.
With gratitude,
